Richard John Santorum was born in Winchester, Virginia in the year 1958. In 1990, Rick Santorum started his political career by running for political office. He was one of the candidates for the House of Representatives of United States from Pennsylvania. He wanted to get higher office. In 1994, he won election to the United States Senate. In 2012, he announced that he is going to run in 2012 United States presidential election.

Rick Santorum was the second of three children. His father was a psychologist and an immigrant from Italy. His mother was a nurse. His family was religious and they attended church on a regular basis. Rick Santorum grew up in suburbs outside Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He graduated from a high school in Illinois. After high school, he went to Pennsylvania State University. In 1980, he got a bachelor’s degree in political science. In 1981, he got an MBA from the University of Pittsburgh.

While in College, he helped senator John Heinz in his campaign. After that, he worked for senator Doyle Corman . Rick Santorum was always a dedicated Republican. He go his degree in law in 1986. He began to work at Kirkpatrick and Lockhart as a lawyer. While working there, he met his wife. He married Karen Garver and they had seven children.

Political Career

Rick Santorum started his political career when he was 32 years old. He surprised many political experts when he won the run for a position at Pennsylvania’s House of Representatives. His campaign was very effective and he managed to win against Doug Walgren . Rick Santorum made his reputation by attacking corruption, particularly in the Congressional Post Office scandal and the House banking scandal.

When he was just 36, Santorum won election to the United States Senate in 1994. After six years, he was reelected to a second term. He was elected at Republican Conference. Santorum became famous his aggressive and blunt style in Congress. He was always spirited and skilled in his political confrontations.

Political Views

Santorum had many traditional and conservative views. He was one of the strongest traditional speakers on controversial issues, such as euthanasia, abortion, sexual morality and evolution. Ha was in favor of the teaching of intelligent design and he strongly opposed teaching of classical and widely approved scientific concepts such as evolution. He also adopted a strong pro-life position. He is against abortion and euthanasia.

Recent Career

Santorum didn’t win his reelection campaign in 2006. After this failure,Santorum retreated from the national political scene. Instead of political career, he continued to work as a lawyer. He also contributed for a cable network called Fox News.

Santorum decided to continue his political career as a 2012 presidential candidate. His strong points are fiscal and social conservatism. He has strong religious and family values. Santorum believes that he has strong chances to become a presidential candidate. Many polls show that his position is relatively weak. Rick Santorum will surely launch a strong campaign that will increase his chances and make him a good candidate in a 2012 United States presidential run.
